(Summary below)
In a landmark celebration of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary, Returning Home is a powerful art exhibition and programme hosted at Harbourside South, Port Moresby. Backed by Steamships in collaboration with Pacific Palms Property, it features five PNG artists, Grace Hasu Dlabik, Yuriyal Bridgeman, Lesley Wengembo, Jeremiah Neundorf, and Serge Ah-Wong, whose works are being shown in PNG for the first time. The exhibition comes with a week of creative activities: workshops, talks, and networking, all aimed at connecting artists, community, and culture.
“This has been a pivotal moment for us as artists, a chance to share our art, experiences, and skills with the wider creative community,” says Grace Hasu Dlabik. Steamships’ involvement reflects its belief in culture as more than heritage: it is identity, pride, community, and a catalyst for nation-building. Admission to the exhibition is free, reinforcing its role not just as a showcase, but as an open invitation for all Papua New Guineans to engage with their shared creative legacy.
